Plenary Event Key Drivers of Organic Waste Diversion from Cape Town’s Landfills: An Update of Key Policy Instruments and Initiatives Tue, 13 April 2021
Please join GreenCape and speakers as we introduce / update Cape Town’s organic waste-related stakeholders, including the food value chain, on key policy instruments and initiatives under development that have a direct impact on organic waste.
These instruments/initiatives will not only drive the diversion of organic waste from Cape Town’s landfills, but will also stimulate investment into organic waste reduction and beneficiation, and strengthen private sector competitiveness. They will also guide Cape Town’s transition towards a resource-efficient, circular economy that not only keeps organics out of landfills, but that also values food.
A circular economyis an economy that designs out waste; regenerates ecosystems; and keeps materials at their highest use or value for as long as possible. This includes the circulation of biological nutrients. To unlock the key elementsof a circular economy, a number ofpolicy instrumentsare available to the various levels of government. These instruments are vital for stimulating circularity at scale.
The policy instruments and initiatives discussed during this plenary will strengthen the business case for organic waste solutions, and will provide businesses generating organic waste an opportunity to better understand, plan and leverage these changes to strengthen competitiveness.
