RSVP by 12 October – Stakeholder consultation sessions on the development of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Perfomance Performance Guidelines and South Africa’s Low Emission Development Strategy 18 October, 2018

Subject: Save the Date- Stakeholder consultation sessions on the development of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Perfomance Performance Guidelines and South Africa’s Low Emission Development Strategy

Dear Stakeholder,

As you may be aware, the Department of Environmental Affairs has commissioned work on the development of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Performance Guidelines that could be used to guide the climate change mitigation assessment in processes such as environmental authorisation to allow carbon budget space allocation to new entrants into the market.

The Department is also in the process of developing South Africa’s Long-Term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategy (LEDS) up to 2050. The Strategy will be used as a country’s blueprint to support the transition to a low carbon economy and society and to be communicated to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2020. The South African LEDS is being developed using existing work and studies conducted and already approved by Government, in which the PPD currently defines the national emission reduction objective and trajectory.

We would like to consult with you on this work on the 18th October 2018.   The morning session from 09h00 to12h30 will be dedicated to the development of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Performance Guidelines and afternoon session from 13h30 to 15h30 will be on the LEDS.

We therefore request that you SAVE this date to be part of these consultation sessions.

We will communicate the necessary documentation and the exact venue (around Pretoria) in due course. Please confirm your participation to Mashudu Mundalamo (mmundalamo@environment.gov.za) on or before 12 October 2018.
