How to find out what is happening with the proposed South African Carbon Tax
The SA Carbon Tax has been in the pipeline for many years. We have had draft policy documents, draft regulations, many socio-economic modeling studies and several public participation processes. Each year the National Treasury announces that it will finally be implemented on the 1st January in the next year and, so far, each year the implementation has been postponed for various reasons. At the time of writing, the SA Carbon Tax is supposed to be implemented in January 2019 – however, 2019 is the year of SA’s next general election and no one wants to propose new taxes in an election year!
