Wind turbine manufacturer Nordex has been chosen for the delivery and turnkey installation of a 100MW wind farm in South Africa.

Wind power producer Dorper Wind Farm (RF) Pty Ltd, whose sponsors are South African-based wind project developer Rainmaker Energy and its Japanese partner Sumitomo Corporation, confirmed Nordex would work on the site north-west of Queenstown in the Eastern Cape.

Nordex will start construction immediately, with the installation of 40 N100/2500 turbines from late 2013. The order also includes a service contract for an initial period of 10 years.

Dorper entered into a 20-year power purchase agreement with Eskom Holdings SOC Limited, a state-owned utility company, on Monday. On the same day it signed a contract with the South African Department of Energy, under which the DOE guarantees the payment obligations of Eskom under the PPA….
