South Africa needs to keep its mind open to further developments in the extraction of unconventional natural gas sources, such as shale gas, Deputy Energy Minister Barbara Thompson said this week.
A study conducted by the International Energy Agency estimated that the Karoo might have a shale gas potential of 485-trillion cubic feet (tcf). While not yet proven, further exploration would be informed by the outcomes of the study on the process of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, the Deputy Minister said…
