Notice: 2nd Round of Public Engagement – Eskom MES Postponement Application: Availability of Draft Application Documents for public review & SCHEDULED PUBLIC MEETINGS

Grootvlei and the liquid fuel stations (Sasol and Mossgas) are now excluded and will be dealt with in separate applications. The various reports for comment should be available from Monday, for comment by *16 January 2019**. *So we still don’t yet know which stations will seek postponements v suspensions, nor for which periods or which pollutants*.*

The second round of public engagement for the application for postponement of the Minimum Emission Standard (MES) compliance timeframes for Eskom’s coal and liquid fuel fired stations in Mpumalanga Highveld, Vaal Triangle and Cape Region has been announced in press advertisements in national, regional and local newspapers on 9 November 2018.

Eskom will apply to the National Air Quality Officer for postponement or suspension or propose alternative emission limits of the respective emission standards as allowed for in terms of the MES. The following power stations will apply for postponement or suspension or propose alternative limits:
– Lethabo Power Station in the Vaal Triangle; – Majuba-, Camden-, Kriel-, Matla-, Kendal-, Duvha-, Arnot-, Hendrina- and Komati power stations in the Mpumalanga Highveld Region.
*Grootvlei power station (Balfour), Acacia power station (Western Cape) and Port Rex power station (Eastern Cape) are now excluded from this postponement application and will be dealt with through separate application processes. No public engagements will be undertaken in these areas as part of the second round of public engagements of the current process. *

– *the imminent availablity of the respective draft motivations, Atmospheric Impact Reports (AIR) and consolidated Public Participation (PP) Report for public review and comment from 19 November 2018 to 16 January 2019* – *Scheduled Public Meetings for the project from 20 – 29 November 2018 to explain the outcome of the studies and facilitate comments on the report*


The draft application documents for the respective power stations will be made available for public comment from *Monday 19 November 2018 until Wednesday 16 January 2019*. Electronic versions of the reports and comment sheets will be available on the following website: Hard copies of these documents will also be available from public libraries in towns in the vicinity of the power stations.

*Please refer to the attached English I&AP Notification letter for more details. *The Notification letter is also available in Afrikaans, English, IsiZulu, Sesotho, Siswati from the Naledzi website.

*Important:* A series of public meetings have been scheduled as part of the second round of public engagement for the project from* 20 – 29 November 2018 *at various venues close to the power stations. I&APs are welcome to attend any one of the scheduled public meetings *as per the attached ‘Schedule of Public Meetings’*.

I&APs can comment on the draft documents by completing the attached comment sheet, writing a letter, sending an email or contacting the appointed independent environmental consultant as per the below given details. I&APs should submit their comments together with their name, contact details to the contact person indicated below *on or before 16 January 2019**.* I&APs can comment on individual applications (per power station) or on the overall application process.
