The second round of public engagement for the application for postponement of the Minimum Emission Standard (MES) compliance timeframes for Eskom’s coal and liquid fuel fired stations in Mpumalanga Highveld, Vaal Triangle and Cape Region has been announced in press advertisements in national, regional and local newspapers on 9 November 2018.
Eskom will apply to the National Air Quality Officer for postponement or suspension or propose alternative emission limits of the respective emission standards as allowed for in terms of the MES. The following power stations will apply for postponement or suspension or propose alternative limits:
– Lethabo Power Station in the Vaal Triangle; – Majuba-, Camden-, Kriel-, Matla-, Kendal-, Duvha-, Arnot-, Hendrina- and Komati power stations in the Mpumalanga Highveld Region.
*Grootvlei power station (Balfour), Acacia power station (Western Cape) and Port Rex power station (Eastern Cape) are now excluded from this postponement application and will be dealt with through separate application processes. No public engagements will be undertaken in these areas as part of the second round of public engagements of the current process. *

Hard copies of these documents will also be available from public libraries in towns in the vicinity of the power stations.
