State-owned electricity utility <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/electricity-utility> Eskom <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/eskom> has confirmed that its new strategy, which will involve far-reaching changes to its business <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/business>model, will seek to position the company for opportunities arising in the rest of Africa <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/africa-company>.
“Growth opportunities for Eskom <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/eskom> are not restricted to South Africa <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/south-africa>. To grow the business <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/business>, Eskom <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/eskom> will need to become a strong pan-African utility,” Eskom <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/eskom> told *Engineering <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/engineering> News Online* in response to questions on the scope of the strategic changes being contemplated.
The review is also interrogating the prospects of Eskom <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/eskom>offering new products <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/products> and services <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/services>, while responding to the technology <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/technology> changes under way in the electricity supply industry <www.engineeringnews.co.za/topic/electricity-supply-industry>.
The utility also insists that the delay in the finalisation of its new long-term strategy will have no negative consequences for the timing of the release of its new corporate plan, which remains scheduled for completion by the end of February.
