The rebate scheme for State utility Eskom’s low-pressure rebate solar water heaters (SWH) would be phased out in December and replaced by a contractual procurement model, residential and municipal sector manager Fikile Segole said on Wednesday.

Eskom stated last year that a contractual approach would provide the offtake sought by suppliers and financiers and would support South Africa’s aspiration of rolling out one-million solar geysers by 2014/15, thereby achieving savings of between 3 000 MW and 3 500 MW…
