Eskom interim profit shrinks (slightly) as cost increase outpaces revenue rise

TATE-owned power utility Eskom’s group net profit declined to R12.6bn in the six months ended September 2012, from R12.8bn a year ago.

Releasing its interim results on Tuesday, Eskom said revenue was up 14.7%, from R64bn to R73.4bn.

Revenue per kilowatt-hour increased 17.3% compared with the same period last year.

Primary energy costs increased by 14.3% to R25bn and its operating costs increased by 24.1% to R26.9bn…
