REACTING TO THE NEWS OF THE APPOINTMENT OF BEN MARTINS AS THE NEW MINISTER OF ENERGY, GREENPEACE
Johannesburg, July 09 2013: Reacting to the news of the appointment of Ben Martins as the new Minister of Energy, Greenpeace Executive Director Michael O’ Brien-Onyeka has said:
“Greenpeace hopes that Ben Martin’s appointment as the new Energy Minister will bring about the much needed renewable energy boost to the energy sector. The current coal-based energy plan shows no commitment in dealing with issues of health, water shortage and the need to reverse the threats of climate change. A transition from coal and nuclear to renewable energy sources is both critical and urgent to save South Africa’s water, and enhance access to decentralized and affordable electricity for all of South Africa’s people”.
